What We Do On Rainy Weekends

It rained all weekend. Yuck. So, we had to come up with some creative things to do since playing in the sand at the park was out.

First, we ate Daddy's chocolate chip muffins and made funny faces at him:

Then we got our rain boots on and danced around the house playing our sax (thanks Grandpa for the puppy dog rain boots!):

Then we took long, warm baths with our new Easter toys from the grandparents:

And took advantage of a break in the rain to practice the new skills GRANDMA taught us - "Smell the flowers, Grace":

"Rain rain go away!":

Gotta love that smile.

Grace Can Sniff -- well sort of...

For those of you with kids you will have undoubtedly heard of the book, "Pat the Bunny." It is an adorable little interactive book circa 1950, with pages to touch and feel. The main characters are Paul and Judy and the book takes you through what Paul or Judy "can do." For example, Judy can pat the bunny. And then the book states "Now, you pat the bunny" - upon which Grace promptly pats the soft, little bunny stuck on the page. So cute. Anyway, Paul can smell the flowers. So, when we get to that page I usually smell the flowers first (to show Grace how it's done) and then Grace either licks the flowers or puts her little nose up to the page pretending to smell. This behaviour is consistent with that of Easter morning when Grace's Grandma (Mary) asked Grace to smell the flowers:

Grace - smell the flowers for Grandma!

Yes - that is her tongue out and she is attempting to use it to lick the flowers.

Tada! Here's Grace so proud that she can follow directions.

Now, on the list of major accomplishments in the life of a toddler, sniffing doesn't rate all that high, but I will brag a little about this one because it was so cute. This morning Brandon and I were reading "Pat the Bunny" with Grace and this time when we got to the flower page, Grace actually brought the book to her nose and made a big sniffing sound. It was so sweet and so unexpected. She is learning so much so fast. One day she is licking possibly poisonous purple flowers in our urban desert, the next she is sniffing fake little flowers in a board book. Where has my tiny baby gone??

Happy Easter!

We had a fantastic Easter. Here's Grace opening up her Easter basket. Thank you Easter bunny. The Easter bunny sent Grace a series of bath toys and some shovels for the sand box. She loved them all! And then, lucky little Grace got a beautiful Easter basket from Grandma & Grandpa!! What a treat!

Here's Grace after attending Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Thanks to Grandma for making Grace's beautiful Easter bonnet. Her very first! Just like her mommy's when she was a little girl. Isn't it adorable??

The best part of our day was spent breaking bread (with and without yeast) with our family & friends! Thanks Grandma, Grandpa, Chad, Amy, Steph, Elliott, Jordan, Jeff, Sadaf, Ashly & Mike for coming over and sharing Easter dinner with us. It made Grace very happy!!

Getting Ready for Swimming Lessons!

Grace has been taking swimming lessons since she was 6 months old. We didn't think she would learn a whole lot from the lessons, but we were wrong. Grace has learned to kick in the water, to move her little arms on command, but most importantly, to LOVE the water. I think the best part about her lesson is how much she loves to spend her time in the pool with her daddy. Take a look at these pictures for some hard evidence of that! Next semester starts the last week of April. Think they're ready??

Grace's First Hair Cut!

Here's Grace sitting in her cool jeep getting ready for the snip snip. The hair stylist is putting on Baby Einstein (aka Baby Crack) to keep Grace calm. Mommy came prepared with little things to shake that make funny noises...

So far so good...no tears, yet! Grace just loves her "movie"!

What a good girl!

Almost done!!

Voila!! Grace has a new hair style! And a new bow! Isn't she lovely? Mommy got a little teary eyed (what a dork!) -- but, in the end a huge success. No tears and no more crazy hair. All thanks to Whipper Snippets in TriBeCa. Someone please make a hair appointment for Mommy now!
